Pastor Asks Council to Allow Guns In Church

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - Some pastors in a northwestern North Dakota city are asking that guns be allowed in churches.
?? ?
The Forum newspaper reports that the group plans to submit a petition this week to Williston city commissioners that would give churches the option of allowing concealed weapons.
?? ?
The Rev. Will Page, associate professor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, says he's worried that people with evil intentions may target churches because they know members of the congregation are not armed.
?? ?
The group says the petition is motivated by mass shootings elsewhere and not the state's oil boom.
?? ?
The state Legislature is considering allowing guns in churches and other places.
?? ?
Sen. Stan Lyson, of Williston, a former Williams County sheriff, says he doesn't believe that allowing concealed weapons in church or other places improves safety.
