NORFOLK ? Workers at the Sears store on Military Highway are reacting to word that their store is closing, along with dozens of others across the county.
Between 100 and 120 Sears and Kmart stores will be closing after poor holiday sales.
Workers at the Military Circle Sears store said that some of them will be transferred to other stores but many will lose their jobs.
A typical Sears store has between 40 and 80 employees.
?It definitely narrows the market down for where we can get certain items from especially with home appliances and stuff for do it yourselfers like myself," said Ed Speller of Norfolk.
Some shoppers say they thought the 2005 merger of Kmart and Sears would be a positive change.
"I thought that the Sears and Kmart merger was going to make things a little safer for them to survive in these trying times that we are all going through," said Speller.
Sears has not released an official closing date for the Military Circle location.? One employee told 13News the store will begin phasing out February 1.
