REGINA-For their fourth cross-country tour, non-profit group Five Hole for Food is rounding up more people hungry for a chance to shoot pucks in exchange for local food bank donations.
?Theres this miss conception that hunger is a season problem, feed a man at Christmas, feed a man at Thanksgiving- well he?s not fed for the year so with the food shelves running empty I think its great we are able to inspire Canadians to take their passion and turn it into action,? said Richard Loat, founder of five hole for food.
This coast to coast event kicked off in St. Johns Newfoundland and will end in Vancouver on July 20th.
Residents brought a hockey stick, runners and a donation for the food bank in order to participate.
?Its so heart-warming to see each of the communities coming out and trying to help their neighbours in anyway they can. The nice thing about this its any donation to the food bank to come and participate so there is no reason anyone cant participate,? said Jacqueline Bolton, ING Direct.
This year, Five Hole for Food aims to raise 250,000 pounds of food in 17 days and reaching Regina they?ve already raised over 100,000 pounds.
Although many were not getting into the game, donations were sky rocketing.
ING Direct is travelling with Five Hole for Food and at every stop they find a unique way to donate. Here in Regina, they made a donation of $500 to the Regina Food Bank.
?Spending the summer travelling travelling across the country, playing hockey and helping 13/14 different food banks across the country is just a dream come true for me personally,? said Bolton
