ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that the Atlanta Hawks are one of two teams that will have face to face meetings with free agent center Andrew Bynum this week.
The Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks will have face to face meetings later this week with free agent center Andrew Bynum according to a report by ESPN.com's Marc Stein.
Bynum met with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday who have about $15 million under the cap still to spend this summer. However, Cleveland has been reluctant to tie up any of their salary cap space for next season and thus may only look for a one-year deal for Bynum.
To this point it appeared that the Mavericks were the team most interested in Bynum. The problem with negotiating a contract in this case is Bynum's worrisome knees and the fact that he did not suit up in a single game last season. However, when healthy, he is regarded as one of the best centers in the league and some team will take a chance in a high risk, high reward situation.
The Mavericks and Hawks could potentially agree to a longer deal with Bynum than Cleveland although, in the Hawks case, the starting offer likely wouldn't be as high as the others. Any team that does sign Bynum to a contract will no doubt leave themselves outs in the form of team options on future seasons. The meeting with the Cavaliers and Hawks could also be a ploy by Bynum's representation in an effort to pressure Dallas into a better offer.
Exit Discussion: Given the Hawks current cap situation are you in or out on a potential Andrew Bynum signing?
